This is an extremely versatile and unique amp. It features 2 sets of output tubes – 4xEL84 and 2xEL34, which are switchable. Further it can go between fixed and cathode bias and between 4 or 2 EL84 tubes. It can go between TB30, MRSH plexi and MTCH style tones.

It features a TB30 style channel (12AX7 tubes) and an EF86 based channel, both of which feature Treble and Bass controls along with the volume control. It has the most usable EF86 channel we’ve encountered so far.

The amp can be dialed in similar to a TB30, a MRSH style 50W amp and something inbetween.

To our ears it is sounding best at the fixed bias EL34 setting, which is what we used for captures of both channels.

To our ears it is best at giving a JT45-like tone, which is a bit more compressed, compact/coherent and with slightly more clarity.

The set includes 18 AMP+CAB Tone Models ranging from clean to lead.

Perfect blend of Marshall and Vox Style tones

I just love this amp and how dynamic it reacts to the guitar volume as well as when I use my Overdrive pedals in front of Tonex. I'm a huge Marshall fan and always struggle with "pure" Vox tones, I find them too bright/jangly on cleans and too fat in the mids on the cranked Normal channel Brian May style. This amp has the perfect aspects of both worlds for me. I'd love to get more captures with the Marshall cab. There is only one Preset with that cab and for dirty tones it's my favourite of the set.

Exceptional!

I come from 4 decades of tube amp snobbery and am just now dipping my toes into the profiling/capture world with a ToneX Pedal combined with a TC Plethora X3. Having poured through the many thousands of available tone models and presets, Amalgam easily had the best sounding and most dynamic captures out there so I grabbed the Jack Brit, TRCK and VX TB50 packs. I'm not normally a Vox lover, at all, but the Jack & TB50 captures are just insanely good, with fantastic warmth, clarity and easy clean-up on tap. Being primarily a D-Style and "edge of" to medium gain lover (current real rig is an ODS clone), the TRCK is right up my alley, especially when pushing the front end a bit with an ext pedal. To me, Amalgam sets the gold standard in captures and will be the first place I go when seeking new tones. The accompanying documentation is also superb. Really impressed and grateful for this resource.
