The 1966 Magnatone M10 is a very unique amp. It has two distinct channels. Channel I roars and easily gets into drive territory on its own without flubbing out, as this channel is slightly leaner. Channel I is on the warmer side and pairs beautifully with single coils and humbuckers as well, which give it enough push to ho into proper overdrive.

Channel II has more low end and highs and is a specialist channel for the cleans as its Clean and Edge of Breakup tones are big and have an unmistakable American character. It can be considered a more “Hi-Fi” sounding channel as opposed to the rawer Channel I. This channel doesn’t sound great when heavily overdriven, so that is where Channel I takes over.

The crunch and drive tones of this amp exude a lot of warm character and its mid-forward tone fits well within the rock and blues context. Starting with great cleans from Channel II and up to proper overdrive from CHannel I you will find a lot of warm vintage tones in this little amp.

Famous users of the M10 were Mike Campbell, John Sebastian and Dan Auerbach from the Black Keys.
